What is the point of travelling?
Where would you go on a dream trip?
Do you imagine an active trip (bike down a volcano, bungee jump, etc) or a more relaxing journey(resort, funny umbrella in your drink)?
There are three tasks each week:
First, there's a blog entry (about 250 words)which will have you respond to a hopefully thought-provoking question.
Second, there's a reading. There’s no blog entry associated with this. Just read.
Third, there's a written response to the reading. Your reading and writing on the blog must be completed by the Friday (by midnight) of the week in which the reading falls. This entry should be a long paragraph.
The point of traveling is to enjoy time off and visit a new culture. To get to know new things and new people and learn more about others around us. It is a time for sight-seeing and maybe even a time for shopping. It is just a time to relax and do the things you never would imagine doing. It is a time to feel alive and remember how great and wonderful life is! I would go to Paris, France on my dream trip. I am a romantic at heart so I feel I'd very much enjoy the sights. They say Paris is a romantic paradise. I also enjoy the language, French, I really like the accent and I would try to learn some words in French. I imagine both an active and relaxing journey. Vacation is a time to do both! Depending on how much time you have you could spend your vacation both relaxing and being active. However it would also depend on where your vacation is. If I were in Paris, France I'd imagine it more as a relaxing journey. A time of peace and a time to remind yourself of who you are. I would imagine going into the Eiffel tower and just watching the beautiful view of the city while relaxing and hopefully being there with the person I love because of Paris romance. Or maybe even finding love in Paris? I feel trips could be active or relaxing all depending on your personality and also the place where you choose to go on a vacation too.
ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to get out and learn some of the many cultures in the world. There areas of the world that can be so foreign to us, but once explored it can feel as if great knowledge was gained. Traveling is a great way to get a real hand on learning of all the places visited in the history books. The experience of traveling and enjoying different time zones, foods, activities, museums, and historical landmarks is the main point of travel. Traveling can open a mind to think differently than what it was used to. Traveling to another city, county, state, even continent can give a person a change that they can only get through traveling. On a dream trip I would love to travel to Fiji. The pictures are beyond beautiful, so I can only imagine how it would be to experience it for myself. I want to enjoy their clean beaches, and rich atmosphere. Travel to local museums, and visit the bed and breakfasts located around. I would love to travel and learn about the rich history of that culture. My trip would be full of relaxation, spas, and great drinks. I would love to relax and catch a moment to enjoy the scene around me. However, I would have to make time for some active activities. Hiking, Snorkeling, and whatever else they have to offer I would love to try at least one time. I want an up close view of old buildings, because each building has its own background in rich history. If I could I would travel the world.
ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to enjoy some down time and to get to know different cultures. It is a time to refresh your mind while expanding your knowledge of the world. You do not even need to travel to a different country to experience a different culture. If you are from the east coast try traveling to the west coast; if you are from the south try traveling to one of the northern states. It is hard for me to say what me dream vacation would be because there is so much of the world that I want to see; I can not just narrow it down to just one destination and activity. I want to go to Greece and run the Athens marathon. I want to visit Paris, France for a month and immerse myself in the food, the art, and everything else their culture offers. London, England has always been on my list of places to visit. It is the place where my favorite authors created masterpieces of literature. I would have to visit the Sherlock Holmes museum on Baker Street and take the Jane Austen, Beatrix Potter, and the Brontes literary tour. The super nerd in my could not leave England without at least a little Doctor Who; I would have to visit the Doctor Who experience and explore London in search of one of the few remaining blue police boxes. I also want to go back to Hawaii and relax on the beach with a fruity drink toped with a funny little umbrella. There is so much of the world that I have yet to see so it is hard for me to pick just one place as my dream vacation. So I guess my dream vacation would be all of these combined into one long trip.
ReplyDeleteThere are different reasons or points for traveling depending who you ask. Traveling can be for business, personal, recreational, or simply for pleasure. The best and most exciting point or reason for traveling is for pleasure. Visiting new or different cultures is very rewarding. The different places one can visit can become learning experiences. While in different surroundings, it can be peaceful and relaxing. Being away from the norm can also be a good time for exploring. If I had an opportunity to travel to a place that I would consider a dream trip, it would be to a place such as Hawaii. I have never traveled to any island but from what is advertised, or even the things I have heard, it seems like paradise. I would want to travel to a place of peace, paradise, and a place with warm sunny weather. The weather makes a difference while traveling. If it is overcast or rainy then travels can become a bad experience. Therefore, my dream trip will have to be during the time of year that would be nice and sunny. Exploring the culture of the island and learning of its history would be something I would also like to explore. Hence, visiting museums, landmarks, and the special places that the different islands have for visitors is something that I would enjoy doing while on my dream trip. There would be no rush for me to return to a job, responsibilities, and I would have those I love with me while enjoying my trip.

ReplyDeleteTraveling is such an amazing thing that we have the privilege to do. Some people travel for business, some people travel for fun, and some people travel to reunite with their families. No matter the reason for it traveling can be a great experience. I personally see traveling as an opportunity to get away, relax, and to see and experience the world. Traveling is such a beautiful thing, it allows us to visit family member that we haven’t seen in years, it allows us to try different types of foods, it allows us to see and appreciate other cultures, and it allows us to go to the corners of the world that we thought only existed in paintings. If I could go on a dream trip it would be on an all expenses paid trip to Cancun. The reason I would choose Cancun would be because of the beautiful beaches but, the main reason would be because as I Mexican American I really enjoy being around the Mexican culture. I find Mexican culture to be so warm and inviting. Everyone says hello and everyone is friendly no matter what part of the world you are from. Another reason would be because I absolutely love the food. To me Mexican food has so much flavor, whether it is a simple street taco or a lavish meal it all has flavor that you cannot forget . This trip would be nothing but relaxation. I imagine it to be in nice elegant resorts where I can walk down to the sandy white beach and enjoy the ocean breeze as a drink a nice cold beer.
People travel for a variety of reasons. These reasons are for leisure, business, to explore, learn about a new culture, for family vacations or visits, recreational matters, and much more. For example, if a person is into hiking and adventure they are always traveling to new and exotic places. They enjoy nature and the beauty of it. People also travel in order to learn about people's culture. I, myself have always been fascinated by the Egyptian culture and one day I hope to take a trip there to explore its uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteIf I could travel anywhere in the world it would be Egypt. Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to go to this country. I would love to learn about their culture and history. Also the pyramids have always been of interest. Another reason is due to the story of Moses and how they spoke of that land. The way the pharaohs had their own personalized statues and when they died they would get a tomb of themselves. I would love to see a pharaoh's tomb.
Another place I would love to travel to is Hawaii. The reason being is because of all the adventure they have there. The hiking trails they offer look amazing and beautiful. I love adventure and I hear Hawaii is a great place to be adventurous. Also, the beaches, I have heard the water is incredible site. The water is clear blue and refreshing. I would love to see those beaches and get to relax.
My traveling experience would be a mixture of having an adventure and relaxing. I will want to try new things, go hiking, and stay active wherever I go and learn so much about that place. But at the same time I want to relax because it would be a vacation.
There are many different reasons why people travel. Many people travel for business purposes. Others to go visit family who live far from them. Some to learn about new cultures and simply, to see the world and what is out there. My dream trip has always been to go to China. The Chinese culture has always fascinated me. I’m not just talking about their buildings and monuments, which are beautiful works of art. No, what I find interesting about China is their culture and traditional values which they have honored for thousands of years. I would like to be a part of the all the lunar festivals that they celebrate. I think it is pretty cool how they use characters as a writing technique. There is just so much about China that I find intriguing. I hope to some day go and learn more about the Chinese culture. My idea of an active trip is laying of a tropical beach with a funny umbrella in my drink, listening to some music that will make me want to jump up and dance. I’m not much of a risk taker. So, I’ll be safer far away from a volcano. Besides, I am such a clumsy person, that with my luck I will probably fall off a bike, if I would to bike down a volcano. And I would like to avoid accidents like that, especially if it would to ruin my vacation. Thats why, it is safer to just relax and enjoy the scenery.
ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to get to know the world around us. We need to learn how to appreciate other cultures, and in order to do that we have to travel. My dream trip right now would be to Italy. I’ve always wanted to go there because of the history, architecture, and culture there. I would imagine having a relaxing journey sightseeing. I would go the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the famous Coliseum Stadium. I would also try some authentic Italian cuisine. Just thinking about going there makes me so excited. If I couldn’t go to Italy then I would love to go to El Salvador. I would love to collect some things to donate to the underprivileged kids in El Salvador. My husband and I would probably go to the beaches there because I’ve heard so much of their beauty. I would also love to visit my grandparent’s farm where they have their own cows and chickens. My grandma can then show me how she makes her famous cheese and her Salvadoran quesadilla de arroz. I think I would leave the country knowing so many recipes. Then I would go to my in law’s house and eat some delicious mariscos. My husband says that they make the best coctel de concha. Traveling to El Salvador would also help me get know my parent’s culture better. There are so many things I would do in El Salvador and those are just some of them. There is still plenty for me to do there.
ReplyDeleteI think that the point of traveling is to see and experience cultures and traditions that are new to you. But most importantly it is to experience something new and exciting. I think that until you are around other cultures you will never have an understanding of others, even though we may not understand the culture its self. Being able to see and feel the culture of places you have only heard about is embracing. When my daughter’s grandparents moved to Hawaii they were not sure how long they would be there and the only stipulation was to live away from the base and tourist cities. They believe that they would never fully embrace the culture if they lived on the military base. After reading this passage, I was disappointed that I was not able to visit all the places that were mentioned. I was actually looking them up online to get a visual when reading. I think it is very important to see historic monuments and know about the history of the places you visit.
ReplyDeleteIf I could take a dream trip, I would travel to Bali, Italy and Indonesia; taking the same path that Elizabeth Gilbert did in her famous book Eat, Pray, Love. I read this book three years ago and I can still remember how much traveling to all of those different places changed her and taught her something. She lived in Italy for 3 months, eating and loving like a true romantic. She lived in Indonesia, where she lived among monks and embraced their strenuous religious lifestyle. She learns the power of pray and the simplicity of life. Then she travels to Bali, where she finds love. She took the entire year of traveling to discover herself and did it all by herself. This to me is empowering, especially for a women as it is almost unheard of in our culture. Although it may not be feasible to travel for a whole year, I would like to visit all the same destination and dive full force into their culture.
In my opinion, the point of traveling is to open your eyes. When you get the opportunity to travel, it allows you to experience different cultures and places, even if it's only hours away. The nice part about the US being so large is that even though we are all the same nationality, each state is different. Europeans get the chance to experience different cultures and countries in each corner, but here we get the chance to see how different we can all be even if we're from the same country. But if you get the chance to see another country, the allows you to get an even better understanding of the world that we live in, and that is an extremely important aspect to have. If I were able to go on a dream trip, I would try and visit New Zealand and Australia and then travel through as many European countries as I could before finally landing in France and spending as long as I could there. I'm the type that really prefer to go and see as much possible so even if that means being active and riding a bike down a volcano or taking a nice easy stroll through a tiny little town, I'm always ready.
ReplyDeleteThe point in traveling is to not only learn about different cultures, but also to relieve the mind from the everyday stress of everyday life. My dream vacation would be to visit France alongside with someone like a best friend or my sister. Visiting France would include visiting as many places as possible such as the Louvre and taking a trip to Marseilles. Also, enjoying as much food as possible from as many places would also be on my list. Visiting the little towns would be a much greater experience as one would really see how life is in France. I would love to put my little French to good use and try to find my way around this place. Overall, traveling is learning to enjoy everything one can as trips like these don't come around too often. Traveling makes us appreciate what we have as we can observe that far from home there might be those that are not as privileged as us.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the point of traveling can be different depending on the person. Like for my mother she has traveled the country and world for her career, she has done nails for 27 years. She now travels to judge competitions (she use to compete), teach classes and work at shows. For me I want to travel to experience cultures and places I have only read about or heard of. I want to know what different kind of lives people live and the history behind the things they do. Too choose a place for a dream vacation is hard because there are so many places I would love too go! For a trip with in the US I would love to go to the east coast and travel all the way down the coast! I would love to experience the culture there and see all of our countries history! I would also like to travel down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and experience that as well! Both of these places are so different from where I have grown up at! Internationally I would love to go some where that is tropical such as the Caribbean or the Bahamas! I would also love to go to Rome and travel through the different cities there to see their culture and their countries history! For all the travels I have described here I think I would be more active, this way I could really experience the culture and the life around me! I would want to do what the natives do! I want to experience the food, swimming in the ocean, bike riding, hiking and whatever else comes my way! I also would like to have maybe one or two days where I just lounge around and maybe enjoy a massage while laying out in the sun! And of course I would want my significant other by my side!

ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to spend quality time with husband and children. As a family we had taken many trips together and few were within California, some were within the states, and few were out of the country. But regardless of the destination, we always have a good time. Sometimes we don’t even have to do much and still have fun on the trip, and the reason behind is that we all get a break from our daily routine, and relaxation is the key element in any of our travel plans. Although I love the nature, I am not a very outdoor person; I seek for luxury, comfort, and good food while vacationing. I also enjoy riding trains a lot, and my kids have also picked up on that habit as well and this summer we took a day train ride from Bakersfield to Yosemite, and it was very long but lots of fun, so our dream is to take a euro rail tour all over Europe. I want to see the snow covered mountains in Switzerland, enjoy a croissant breakfast in France, and have a dream to go see the Buckingham palace in England.
ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to get away. Although some may have to travel for business or for family reasons, traveling on vacations is a chance to see and experience a different setting. My dream is to travel to Switzerland. I think that Switzerland would be so much fun to see. I think you could relax and visit Zermatt or Lausanne and also enjoy the historical and medieval destinations like Bern. I would probably enjoy each one. I would definitely love to visit Zurich and Geneva for their sites plus I love to see lots of people and I love to taste different cuisines. Also they are well known to exhibit contemporary art. I like to see other cultures expression thought their art and architecture and get to know more about their history. Personally, I would like to visit each one for a few days or so and then travel by train to the other destinations in Switzerland. I think the best time to visit would be during the summer months. Most say that the weather is best during that time, and plus they have a lot of festivals and things going on. I imagine having an active trip, but I also like time to relax and take it all in. Relaxing a day or so helps not burn out so fast or to get too tired to enjoy the rest of your travels. I would definitely plan some days to hang out in a particular area like the Lake Lucerne where you are surrounded by beautiful scenery, and the pace is a little slower.
ReplyDeleteI think there’s a couple reasons why travelling is important. When I travel, I see things and places I would never see staying close to home, and there’s amazing places, people, and cultures all over the world. As adults, our perspective on life is very much based on the experiences we’ve had, and I can’t imagine only having the perspective of what I know from being in my home town.
ReplyDeleteMy dream trip would be a vacation to the Bahamas and to stay at the Atlantis resort because I know there would be so many amazing things to do. We’re planning a trip there once my son is older, and I can’t wait to go! My parents never really took my siblings and I anywhere like that when we were younger, so I would love for my son to be able to experience those things.
I wouldn’t want to take a trip where we just sit in the hotel room watching TV all day, but, also, don’t want to be on the run all the time like I am at home. I think a couple days of activities and a couple days of just laying low would be nice. Life, at least for me, always feels like it’s moving 100mph, and I really value being away from home with family and friends.
The point of traveling is to explore the world and all of the wonderful things that it has to offer. No matter where you go you will learn about a new culture and a new way of life.People all over the world have different views about how things are suppose to be done and these things are sacred to them, just as we have our own sacred ways as well. My dream trip would be to go on a trip to egypt to see the pyramids. I have thought that these pyramids are amazing my whole life. I have wanted to travel and see them, touch them, and know how they were made. The trip would be so amazing that I don't know if I could control myself. I would want this trip to be an active trip. I hate sitting in hotel rooms. Id want to go walk around Egypt and see what there is to offer in the diverse culture, and the extravagant foods that they have to offer. Id go to any type of museum that I could find. I would love to see a mummy. Mummy's are so crazy. Who would of thought that someone could be preserved so well from over a thousand years ago.
ReplyDeleteTraveling allows the opportunity to be surrounded by another culture. It doesn't matter whether you travel a few hours to another city or half way across the globe. Anywhere other than a comfortable home town is a different and new culture to the traveler. Travel provides the ability to learn through doing, experiencing, and seeing. There is research that proves that the more you are amerced in a culture or different language the quicker you will learn and adapt to it. If I could, I would go to as many places as I could.
ReplyDeleteI have too many dream trips but the first place I want to go is Ireland. I picked Ireland because of the beautiful landscape and ancient architecture. I love castles and I have researched so amazing castles in Ireland. Although it is a lot colder there and I am more of a tropical weather person, I still want to learn and see the culture of Ireland.
When I plan vacations (regardless of how far I am going) I through the planner out the window. I plan enough to get me there and then let the day take me where it wants to go. Somedays are relaxing and some are adventure filled. I like the idea of the vacation controlling what you do instead of being so focused on getting to all of the plans you planned to do before you even got to the location.
The point of traveling is to be able to enjoy visiting a place that is different than what you're normally used to, and to be exposed to a different culture. I am currently planning my dream trip with my cousin right now. We are hoping to go all around Europe in the summer of 2014. First, we want to start in England. I want to see London and then all of the little quaint, cottage towns that reside there. Then, our plan is to see Paris. For me, England and France would satisfy my Europe itch for a while. I would love to eventually have traveled to all different parts of Europe, but for the time being I would be perfectly content with those two places. I know that we will also see some relatives that live in Scotland. I hope that we will be able to stop in Ireland because my ancestors are Irish so I think it would be interesting to see where my family comes from. My cousin wants to find a way for us to go to Switzerland and a few other places. Also, if I could I would find a way for us to visit Greece. After watching the Olympics in Athens on television, I've always wanted to go to a beach in Greece and try some seafood from over there. I'm not really the type of person who would want to go climb to the top of some infamous mountain in Europe or go bungee jumping off of a bridge there either. I am too concerned with being able to squeeze in as much sight seeing as I can and being able to take in all of the architecture and such. So I would consider myself more laid back. As long as I get to enjoy my surroundings, then I will be happy.
ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to get away from the day to day activities that become mundane. An escape to the beach is my favorite getaway. Beaches are close to Bakersfield and are always great, just take some trunks and a boogie board. A dream trip for me would be a trip to Hawaii. I have no idea why except that I never hear anything bad about Hawaii. Their beaches are the warmest and the climate is said to stay in the 70's. I would like to scuba, swim with the dolphins, cliff dive, wind sail, wind surf, surf, and drink mai tais until I get sick. There isn't any one thing that is interesting about Hawaii. Hawaii is a tropical dream in paradise. I imagine the best of both worlds, an active day full of exciting adventures into what Hawaii has to offer and then a relaxing evening of entertainment. This last summer me and my kids were at the beach and they tried the boogie board for the first time. It was great to watch them try and catch a wave and ride it in. There is no experience like the first experience and that is what Hawaii will be.
ReplyDeleteThere is not only one point of traveling, there are many. You could travel for work, school or personal reasons like vacation. I think the traveling experiences people get the most out of are personal vacations or family visits. People typically pick a location for a vacation that they have never been before. They pick these places because they found some aspect of that location interesting. People could be interested in the culture, cuisine or nature associated with a specific location. The importance of traveling for vacation is to see and experience things that you would never experience in your hometown. Those experiences help you grow as a person and show you that there is more to this world than what you think. Learning about different cultures opens your mind and allows you to see the good in different people.
ReplyDeleteOn my ultimate dream trip, I would love to go to Egypt. When I was little I used to love to read and watch National Geographic videos about the pharaohs. I dreamt that one day I could be an archeologist and have the opportunity to dig in Egypt. There is so much history and culture associated with Ancient Egypt. I It would be the opportunity of a lifetime to visit the Pyramids of Giza and King Tutankhamun tomb. I would also like to be able to read and understand the hieroglyphics and go to the Ancient Egyptian museum in Cairo. This trip would be mostly an active trip but it is always nice to have some down time and be able to relax as well.
The beautiful part about traveling is people can make any excuse to travel. Not only can it be a stress reliever, but it can also open people's eyes to the diversity in the world. Many people grow up in a town, have kids there, and end up spending their whole life there. Living in one place does not give much opportunity to see what else the world has to offer. Also, traveling somewhere new gives people the chance to discover things that could change their lives. For example, people that live where it is constantly cold, and they visit Hawaii they may want to move because they are happy because the weather is beautiful. Some people may learn something new about themselves by exploring somewhere new. My dream vacation would definitely be found by a beach where the weather is perfect. I am constantly busy and would enjoy sitting in the sand, relaxing with my son. When I become a teacher, I would like to take my first summer off and go somewhere with my son.
ReplyDeleteThe point of traveling is to experience something that you do not see every day. When people experience or see the same things every day, we tend to get bored with it. When we travel, we have fun and become relaxed because we are not dealing with the same things we deal with everyday. Traveling can also be very educational because we can learn about different cultures, depending on where we travel to. I would love to go to Europe. I want to visit Italy, Spain, and France. I would like my trip to be educational, relaxing, and fun. I want to visit historical buildings and see the art of each country. I would want to taste all the different foods and beverages. If there are night clubs, I would also like to go dancing in the night time to have fun. I would love to meet new people and attempt to learn their language. Last but not least, I would love to just relax and forget about the stresses of life that await me back home.
ReplyDeleteTo me, the point of traveling is to get away from home and visit someplace new. If I could plan a dream trip, I'd go to Hawaii or the Caribbean and just relax. My trip would have some adventurous aspects to it, perhaps parasailing or zip lining. Mostly, it would be to relax and get away from most of my responsibilities.
ReplyDeleteI would swim in an ocean that is clear blue; that way I could see what is about to attack me if I were being attacked. It would be nice to lay in a hammock and drink out of a coconut cup and not worry about a thing. I would not know anyone, so I could be lazy all day and get away with it. I wouldn't even want to take anyone with me on this vacation, I'd be by myself for a week. I think that would be a great vacation from life.
